A PARTIAL-EQUILIBRIUM SIMULATION OF INCREASING THE U.S. TARIFF-RATE SUGAR QUOTA FOR CUBA AND MEXICO AgEcon
Petrolia, Daniel R.; Kennedy, P. Lynn.
A model consisting of Cuba, Mexico, the U.S., and an aggregated “"Rest of the World"” was developed to simulate increases in U.S. sugar imports from Cuba and Mexico. Results indicate that increased imports would generate up to $505 million in U.S. net gains, and that world prices increase only minimally.

A pilot project for indigenous forest reversion AgEcon
Funk, Jason; Kerr, Suzi; Hendy, Joanna.
This paper describes preliminary work on establishing a pilot project for carbon sequestration. The project is intended to simulate the structure of the Permanent Forest Sinks Initiative, a program that may extend to the national level under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. In the process of establishing the project, we will identify opportunities and barriers for landowners to engage in the management system of “carbon farming”. We will also use the results of the process to inform policymakers of potential improvements to the Permanent Forest Sinks Initiative and to demonstrate to landowners the benefits of this management system.

A Preliminary Study of the International Marketing of Shrimp AgEcon
Castellini, Alessandra; Ragazzoni, Alessandro; Valentini, T..
This paper aims to supply a comprehensive account of a particular sector of the fisheries industry. TH increase of demand for fish products has involved an uncontrolled exploitation of marine reserves and fishing has reached its threshold of biological sustainability. For these reasons, aquaculture has grown in a corresponding manner in the recent past. The present survey starts from these considerations and aims to describe the general situation of world-wide, European and Italian aquaculture and then to examine the farming and marketing of a particular kind of product, Penaeus spp., which significantly affects global production in terms of value but not of quantity.

A Primer On Collective Entrepreneurship: A Preliminary Taxonomy AgEcon
Burress, Molly J.; Cook, Michael L..
We document an increasing prevalence of the term ―collective entrepreneurship‖ in scholarly research. By examining the context in which the term is utilized, we present a framework through which to understand motivations for research in collective entrepreneurship and the variety of entrepreneurial endeavors described as collective entrepreneurship. We identify five primary motivations for research: advancement of theory, intra-organizational efficiency, inter-organizational gains, economic growth and development, and socio-political change. We find preliminary evidence collective entrepreneurs may be able to generate rents inaccessible to the sole entrepreneur. In addition, we propose mechanisms which foster entrepreneurship may differ for sole and...

A proposal to correct external effects in the coffee market: a tax on regular coffee and tea to subsidise the fair trade coffee AgEcon
Galarraga, Ibon; Markandya, Anil.
This paper justifies the need to introduce a tax on regular coffee drinkers in the UK to subsidise the fair trade/organic coffee production. This policy will allow to take full account of the negative external effect of regular coffee production while internalising the positive effect of fair trade initiatives. Designing such a policy is possible and the benefits of it can be calculated. This paper shows how. Propuesta para corregir las externalidades en el mercado de café: un impuesto sobre el te y el café regular y una subvención sobre el café de Comercio Justo.
